Why Setting Goals Digitally?

Goal setting digitally can be fun and engaging! It helps us keep coming back to check on the goals progress. We can easily access the goals from our desktop, smartphone and anywhere as long as we have access to the internet.

Digital goal setting transforms the way we engage with our ambitions. Instead of losing sight of our goals, a digital tracker invites us to revisit them regularly.

With access on your desktop, smartphone, or anywhere with an internet connection, you can track progress seamlessly, no matter where life takes you.

What to Look for in Goal Tracker Template?

If you’re on the hunt for a ready-made goal tracker, the internet is teeming with options. You could even build your own tracker from scratch if you’re spreadsheet-savvy.

The question is…

Do you want to spend your time tinkering with formulas, or would you rather focus on setting and achieving your goals?

A thoughtfully designed template can save you hours of frustration and keep your attention where it matters most—turning your aspirations into accomplishments.

Here’s what to look for in a great template:

  • Support: Access to help if you run into trouble.
  • Intuitive Design: Easy to use, even for beginners.
  • Customisation: 100% editable to fit your unique needs.
  • Progress Visualisation: Charts and progress bars to keep you motivated.
  • Flexibility: Options to track multiple goals across categories (personal, business, fitness, etc.).

Just ask yourself:

  • is the template design intuitive and easy to use?
  • is the template 100% editable?
  • how many goals you would like to have for the year?
  • do you prefer to have your goal progress auto-calculated and visualised in beautiful charts?
  • do you like to keep your goals organised in a certain way? can the template support that?
  • is there any support you can reach out to if you face any problems?
  • do you prefer simple design or one that comes with ample functionality?

How to use Goal Tracker Template

This quick guide will help you set up and use your goal planner in no time.

Step 1: Insert Goals / Resolutions

Write down your goals for the year / any period.

To stay focused, we suggest not more than 6 goals in a single period.

However, we know that goal setting can be personal and subjective, what works best for you is the best. If you need more space for more than 6 goals, you can simply duplicate the tab.

Pro Tips:

You may organise the goals by:

  • Quarter: Create tabs for Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4
  • Category: Split Personal and Business Goals. Have a tab for Personal goals and one for Business Goals.

Step 2: Add a Motivational image

Choose an image that best represents your goal to inspire and motivate you all time! Our version of the vision board!

Step 3: Set a start date and end date for the goal.

▶ By default, the first and last day of the year are set as the start and end date.

▶ Want to change the dates? simply double click the cell and select a date from the calendar. This will override the default dates.

Step 4: Breakdown Goals into Steps

▶ For each goals, split the goal into smaller, actionable steps.

▶ Add a due date for each step to keep yourself accountable.

Step 5: Mark Tasks as Completed.

▶Tick the checkbox once a task is done.

▶The tracker will automatically calculate your progress toward the goal.

Adapting to the 12-Week Year Framework

Have you heard of the 12-Week Year? It’s a concept that encourages focusing on shorter, 12-week sprints instead of an entire year. This method creates a sense of urgency and clarity by breaking your goals into manageable timeframes, which makes tracking progress more actionable.

With the flexibility in mind, our Goal Tracker Template can be easily adjusted to adapt this useful framework.

Here’s how:

  • Quarterly Tabs: Organise your goals by quarter, turning each 12-week sprint into its own focus area.
  • Actionable Milestones: Use the action plan section to map out weekly steps that align with the 12-week timeline (up to 30 steps for each goal).
  • Progress Bars: Visualise your progress at a glance with interactive features that update as you complete tasks.
